So I know a lot of my friends know what the Scanning Code of Practice is. However, There are a bunch of you who may not know.
The Scanning Code of Practice is a voluntary code that nearly every major retailer in Canada adheres to. It promises the customer accurate price scanning at the register on all scanned items. If it scans in wrong, you get it for free (or $10 off if the item is more than $10). But only on the FIRST item.
For Example:
I went to Walmart yesterday to buy some milk for my girls. It was advertised in the flyer for $3.27 a carton. Which is a decent price, considering its normally $3.97. I grabbed 4 of them. Coupons in hand of course. Anyways, I reached the check out line, and they each rang in at $3.47. So I showed the cashier my flyer, which said $3.27. She handed me back 1 coupon, and said (I was suprised she knew about SCOP, most cashiers aren't smart in that department) "This one's free, and I'll reduce the rest to $3.27". Needless to say, I usually keep a little "SCOP" ad in my wallet. Just in case!
Though, only certain stores participate in SCOP. Walmart I know for sure does. I think Sobeys & No Frills also do. Feel free to google, swagbuck, or whatever search engine you use, to find out. I know most of the stores that participate also advertise on their main door, or at the cash registers, the Scanning Code Of Practice, and the rules of it. Walmart's (in Wallaceburg) is right on the 2nd set of entrance doors. :)
